Who Am I

MEEt Vincent D. Stringer

Vincent Dion Stringer is a multidisciplinary artist, poet, musician, designer, educator, and public speaker whose work explores the transformative power of creativity, beauty, and human connection.

For more than four decades, his creative and professional journey has spanned the worlds of visual art, music, poetry, design, education, spirituality, and community engagement. Whether through a painting, a poem, a musical performance, an upcycled handbag, or a public conversation, Stringer's work invites audiences to reflect on what it means to be fully human.

A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Stringer studied at the New England Conservatory, Eastern Nazarene College, and the Longy School of Music. He retired from Morgan State University after a distinguished career as Coordinator of Vocal Studies and Founding Artistic Director of Opera @ Morgan, where he mentored generations of emerging artists and helped expand access to operatic performance and arts education.

As a visual artist, Stringer's work has been exhibited throughout Maryland and beyond. His paintings often explore themes of spirituality, identity, resilience, memory, and social transformation. As founder of SPPS Design Studio, he creates one-of-a-kind wearable art and accessories crafted from reclaimed and repurposed materials, transforming the discarded into objects of beauty, meaning, and renewed purpose.

As a poet and public speaker, Stringer draws upon personal experience, cultural history, spirituality, and social reflection to engage audiences in conversations about creativity, justice, belonging, and human flourishing. His philosophy, expressed through the phrase "Creativity is Divinity," reflects his belief that the creative impulse is among the most sacred expressions of our shared humanity.

Stringer is also the creator of the Actively Human framework, a movement and philosophy dedicated to helping individuals and communities cultivate greater awareness, compassion, creativity, and connection. Through workshops, writing, artistic practice, and community engagement, he invites people to embrace a lifelong journey of choosing, reclaiming, awakening, and becoming.

At the center of all his work is a simple conviction: art is not separate from life. Creativity has the power to heal, transform, connect, and remind us who we truly are.

Vincent Dion Stringer lives and creates in Maryland, where he continues to weave together art, spirituality, storytelling, and community through a life dedicated to creative transformation.

His community practice includes ecumenical and interfaith collaboration through The Open Church of Maryland, championing radically inclusive love and courageous social justice.
